Our History

Eldridge Bexley was formed by Stephen Eldridge in 1982 and was incorporated in 1984.

The company grew rapidly over the next few years establishing a strong reputation with local authorities and health trusts in particular for high quality refurbishment projects in occupied premises.

Early in the 1990's the opportunity arose to carry out the company's first design and build project comprising a 'hi-tec' unit with office accommodation. Following the successful completion of this project Eldridge Bexley was approached by a housing association to construct a terrace of four houses also under the design and build conditions of contract.

Since that time 'design and build' has featured strongly in the projects undertaken by Eldridge Bexley, which has now established close links with a range of architects and engineers. However, the company is happy to work under any of the recognised forms of contract.

Housing association projects now account for almost half of the Eldridge Bexley's turnover with a significant proportion being based on negotiated contracts. The majority of these projects form the redevelopment of difficult brown field sites where careful planning of the construction programme is essential. Where appropriate, timber frame construction is used but each project is carefully considered before the construction method is finalised.

Such is the company's intention to provide the best quality service for the most competitive cost, it has recently established its own in house design services company - Eldridge Design. This sister company enables Eldridge Bexley to provide the complete design and build package thereby maximising quality and minimising cost and overheads to clients.

Eldridge Bexley's client base has steadily expanded over the years and it is currently on the approved list of over 150 local authorities, health trusts, schools and other organisations. It is also Company policy only to undertake contracts that are within its area of expertise and which it can properly organise and manage. The company prides itself on consistantly delivering projects on time, within budget and in full compliance with the specification. We belive that this is result of good management and in particular management at site level by the provision of a full time resident site manager for the full period of the contract.

The company is justly proud of its labour relations, in that all its current employees have been with the company in excess of five years and some considerably longer. However, the company are always looking for suitable people to join the team.
